This is a very interesting question! Handedness has been explored, but we are unsure what exactly sways the use of one hand over another. The actual definition of handedness is difficult, as some people change what hand they use depending on the action (e.g. writing or playing guitar). As a result, the exact number of people with left or right handedness changes, so studies suggest right handedness occurs in between 70% and 95% of people, while 5%-30% are left handed. There is evidence of a genetic influence, but this can be changed depending on social and cultural factors (e.g. some people force children to switch hands when writing when they are younger and learn to become right-handed). So, as with many aspects of science, there are elements that we still have to discover.

It is great you are thinking about this, and thank you for asking 🙂
