I guess the answer would be one of the diseases that has already been eradicated. Vaccination has brought about the complete eradication of both Smallpox and Rhinderpest viruses so there will never be another case again. Smallpox, which was eradicated in the 1970s, was highly contagious and killed millions of people, while Rhinderpest, eradicated in 2010, was a severe disease of cattle.

Having an effective vaccination or treatment would be essential to curing any disease. Candidates for eradication would likely have obvious symptoms so they could be diagnosed and treated quickly. The quicker the symptoms appear after infection would help reduce the risk that the disease has spread and infected other people. It would also help if only 1 species could be infected so that the disease couldn’t be hiding somewhere else and come back later on.
