The cardiac conduction system is a group of cells in the walls of the heart that send signals to the heart muscle causing it to contract. It is a really important tissue to study but it is difficult to find and see it.
A couple of years ago I genetically engineered some mice with a green fluorescent protein in their DNA. Under a microscope the cardiac conduction system of those mice heart is glowing green!
I didn’t do that for fun but to be able to easily find that tissue and study how it works. It is now a really useful tool
