The Ouija boards themselves are real, but it’s debatable as to whether they actually do anything. Personally, I don’t think so, as there is no good scientific evidence that the ‘communications’ with spirits have been real. It’s much more likely that people using the boards are spelling out messages unconsciously.

I personally don’t believe we can contact spirits using Ouija boards. QI tells me that they used to be an actual board game and originally it wasn’t meant to be dead people that you contacted, rather something inside yourself…

There is a whole branch of Psychology named parapsychology which aims to objectively, scientifically assess what is happening when people report paranormal experiences. However, this field is generally criticised quite heavily – and many believe it to be a ‘pseudoscience’ or ‘fake’ science. This video below gives some more details of how people have tried to use science to ‘prove’ the existence of paranormal activity.

Not something that I am familiar with or personally believe in – but a nice video from Laura

I also don’t necessarily believe in these sorts of things – however my mum (not a scientist) believes they’re real. As such, I have never used a Ouija board and never will juuuuuuuust in case it turns out I upset dead relatives or find something out I really don’t want to!
