      In terms of research?
I would say the priority lays, mostly, with the most common cancers. The most common cancers affects and kills the most people, so it makes sense to try and cure them first.
The so-called “big 4” – breast, prostate, lung and bowel definitely receive far more interest, funding than other areas, and of these breast cancer easily gets the most attention.

Its worth remembering that, say, “breast cancer” is actually just a term that covers many different specific types of breast cancer. Some of these are easier to treat and much closer to cure than others.

Its also worth remembering that a lot of treatments discovered in one cancer will have applications in a different cancer. In my area of research, for example, drugs effective in some types of lung cancer also seem to be effective in some types of skin cancer.

I don’t think for most people there is anything sinister or political in choosing one type over another, so I’m not sure “priority” is really the right word. More opportunity. Because the big 4 cancers are common, they have more charities, more fund-raising events, more awareness etc – but for most people the ideal is to cure them all!
