Hello, we know that on average the bone marrow in a human can make around 200 billion new blood cells every day. These new blood cells are the cells that make up the blood that you might see if you cut yourself. The reason our bodies make so many blood cells is that many of these cells will only survive and work in your body for a few hours or up to 120 days. Therefore, we need to make lots of new blood to keep our blood levels up in order to fight illness or help stop bleeding when we cut ourselves.
