  Scarily it doesn’t take very long at all to see the effects of air pollution on the body. I have just done an experiment where people were exposed to car exhaust for 4 hours. After that you could see evidence of the lung’s response in their urine. Luckily it looked like the lungs were trying to protect themselves- you usually need much longer and more regular exposures to see evidence of lasting damage. Unfortunately people who live in cities are exposed all day, every day which is why we are trying to find out more about the problem.
