Dementia is actually a group of different diseases. The most common is Alzheimer’s, which you may have heard of, but there are also other forms such as vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. They each have a different set of symptoms and causes, but we are not yet sure of the root cause of any of them. We know proteins often build up in the brain of people with certain types of dementia, and these might be causing our brain cells to die.
