Mist is the same as a cloud you would see in the sky – tiny water droplets in the air. Mist forms when warmer water vapour is rapidly cooled so that it condenses in the air. This can happen when warmer air over water suddenly passes over the land which is cooler. It is just like when you breathe out on a cold day – the water in your breath condenses when it hits the cold air and looks like you’re breathing out steam.
