Good question! When your Mum warns you about going out in the rain without a proper jacket or leaving the house with wet hair when its cold outside she does have a point! Scientists have shown a link between a cooler body temperature and catching a cold virus.
During the cold season, you may be mildly infected but show no symptoms. If your body surface, especially the feet, become chilled this causes the blood supply to our extremities to be reduced as our body tries to keep our core warm. Our blood is the source of our immune cells (like white blood cells) which fight off germs (like the cold virus) so without them we are more prone to infection.
So try to remember to wrap up properly the next time its raining and cold 🙂
