I think we need to make people care by raising awareness of the danger that it poses and showing them the positive changes that local councils are making to help us make cleaner choices. Part of the problem is that you can’t see the pollution so people don’t think it is as big a deal as it is – just the latest way that the newspapers are trying to scare us. Also, a common attitude is ‘what can I do about it? I’m just one person’.

With regards to your asthma – yes unfortunately air pollution is a big trigger for asthma attacks. There are lots of apps you can download that will tell you what the air quality is like in your area on a daily basis. These can help you to avoid asthma attacks by telling you when the pollution level is too high for people with sensitive lungs to exercise outdoors in. Have a look at ‘asthmatic’ for iPhone or ‘AirRater’ if you think it might help you.
