This is a big job for car companies at the moment. One of the major ways that we are doing this is by developing technology to filter out the pollution from exhaust emissions so that less gets into the air. Some of the technology does this chemically (converting the harmful exhaust gases into harmless ones) while others act like sieves, physically trapping particles and debris that come from burning fuel.

Really though, the best way to stop pollution getting into the air is to stop making it. We can all help by walking and cycling or by taking the bus instead of asking for lifts in the car.
