Scientists are constantly working towards finding a cure for dementia. This is the ultimate aim of all their research. Dementia affects our most complex organ, the brain, and it can be difficult to link changes in the brain to the symptoms. Dementia is actually a group of diseases which are all caused by different things, and even within the same type of dementia, people can have variable symptoms. The underlying cause is also hard to pinpoint and changes in the brain can start many years before people start to notice changes in their behaviour or memory. This makes it difficult to develop treatments because we can’t be sure what proteins or molecules to target with the drug. However, new drugs are constantly being developed and tested, and scientists are working hard to understand more about the underlying cause and ways to test for dementia earlier so we can stop it in its tracks!

In short, I think we will find a way to cure dementia, but it will take lots of hard work!
