Bones break for a couple of reasons. Like any other material, sometimes the forces being put upon the bone are just too great and the bone breaks. Secondly, there are a number of diseases that weaken bones and the weaker bones become the more likely they are to break. In both circumstances the more we can learn and understand what make bones strong and healthy the better. For example, research has shown that lots of calcium (good excuse to drink milk 🙂 ) and vitamin D helps keep our bones strong and healthy. I don’t think it will ever been possible to stop all bones from breaking but we can definitely learn more which will help reduce the number of fractures.
