• Question: why doesn't the sun light up the rest of the planets like earth?

      Interesting question… What does the Sun look like from Mars or Venus? Well, the amount of light that reaches a planet is dependent on the distance between the Sun and the planet. This means that Mercury and Venus would be quite “enlightened”, while Jupiter or Saturn would be quite dark, because the Sun is too far from them to provide enough light.
      If you think to all the stars you can see in the sky, only the Sun is close enough to light up our planet… All the other stars are too far, which is the main reason why, during the night (when we don’t face the Sun and there is no moon), it’s dark =)
