I’d give it a 9- I love everything about my job but I do wish there was more funding available so that more important research can get done.

Being a scientist gives you the freedom to spend your days doing something that interests and challenges you, it’s really motivating to know that your work could help improve people’s health or safety and you can use science to travel the world and meet great people.

I would go for an 8, there are certainly highs of a ten and lows of a 4 but overall great experiences, opportunities and general times with collaborators and others.

I’d say it ranges from about 3-10, but on average I’d give it an 8 🙂

You can have good science days and you can have bad science days but for me the good usually out number the bad. I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10.

An 8. There are lots of highs and lows, but overall it is an interesting job, and you get a lot of independence and control over how you spend your time, which I appreciate.

I agree with the majority and would score it an 8. There are days when it is difficult to keep up the motivation, or I get frustrated when I haven’t been able to progress as quickly as I would have liked, however that is the same with every job. The best thing about being a researcher or a scientist is the variety – you can spend one day in a lab, the next at training, then at a conference, and the next taking part in fantastic social engagement activities such as this! Also, being able to conduct your own research and develop your own ideas is something that I really love.
