I have a few friends who studied medicine…they love their jobs so would probably recommend it. You should do something you think you’ll enjoy though, a career takes up most of your life, it isn’t just the time you spend at uni. If you are interested in medicine but don’t think 7 years of study or being a doctor is for you there are plenty of other options like biomedical science or physiotherapy.

I never went to med school but I know that it is extra hard work. Everyone I know who did it really wanted to be a doctor so they were happy to put in the effort to get their dream job. If you are not sure medicine is for you, you can always do a different degree first and do medicine later on. It will take longer but at least you know it is what you want to do.

No matter which pathway you go down, it will be difficult. Medical school is incredibly tough and does take longer to complete. I am sure the doctors out there will say it is worth it, but that is only because that is the career they wanted. If it is what you want to do, then when it gets tough, that drive should help you push through, but if it isn’t something you want then perhaps another field may be better – just be honest with yourself 🙂
