That really depends from week to week. I am contracted to do 40 hours a week but some weeks are busier than others and you learn to compensate for that. Some weeks you might be doing 16 hour experiments every day but then the next experiments could be very short. Also we have deadlines to meet every now and then which can increase the working hours if we don’t work efficiently or organise our time well enough.

It differs from day to day, to week to week. It’s very flexible.
Right now because I’ve got deadlines and public engagement events on the go, I’m working 8.30am-6pm days
However, some days it’ll be considerably shorter if I don’t have as much on the go!

As a PhD student I worked as many hours as I could do get as much of my work done as possible. Now I try to stick to 9-5 (or there abouts) so I have time to do some of the other things I enjoy outside of science.

About 8-9 hours a day, I often work a bit more/have to do things at weekends to keep up. I’m getting near to the end of my PhD so I’m working hard to get my lab work finished.

This varies day to day, week to week and time of the year depending on deadlines and priorities. My role is contracted for 35 hours a week but I always tend to do a little more than this, but try to make sure i prioritise time in the evenings and the weekends to spend time with my family.

As a PhD student, Im not contracted a specific number of hours. I usually get in at 8 and then leave somewhere between 4pm and 6pm depending on the lab day!

Same as the others really, as a PhD student I try to go in as often as I can. I will usually arrive between 8am and 8:30 and leave anywhere between 4pm and 6pm depending on how busy it is!

As others have said being a PhD student is really flexible and you kind of get to work whichever hours you fancy – whether that’s day time, evenings, or weekends. For me, this arrangement works really well, as I love being able to fit my research in around my other interests and commitments. However, it’s always worth keeping an eye on how many hours you’re working so that you don’t end up working all hours of the week – whilst it’s good to be flexible it’s really important to put time aside for things other than work.

As with the others who have answered, it varies from day to day and week to week depending on deadlines. This week I am attending a conference and so my days will be reasonable long but other days I may work 9 to 5
