There are lots of reasons why aggression might occur more in prison than in other environments. There is often a lot of drug use in prisons, and this can lead to people being aggressive. Unfortunately, also due often to the drug use, prisoners can sometimes become in ‘debt’ to other prisoners, and if this debt isn’t repaid, it can sometimes lead to aggression. So there are lots of environmental factors in prison that might make people more aggressive. But it’s also important to consider whether the people that are in prison are already more likely to be aggressive anyway or whether it’s only the prison environment that makes them aggressive.
