• Question: How do lucid dreams work?

      A lucid dream describes when you become aware that you are dreaming, during your REM sleep, so that you can ‘take control’ of your dream as it is happening. I’m not exactly why this happens but there are various theories about how you can encourage lucid dreams or make them more likely.

      As Alexandra suggests – it is possible to teach yourself how to lucid dream. Scientists have shown objectively that lucid dreaming is possible by taking scans of the brain and proving that the same areas light up when e.g. you ask somebody to clench their fists whilst awake and then the person dreams about clenching their fists. Pretty cool eh! This video below explains a bit more about the science behind lucid dreaming:
