• Question: Are we the only organisms that feel emotion?

      I’d quite happily say no to that question!

      If you haven’t had any pets or experience working with animals I can understand why you might ask that – but dogs and cats, our commonest pets, certainly do. If you get the chance to work with horses or cows or pigs you’ll definitely see they have moods and emotions like humans.

      And in the wild there is lots of evidence that apes and monkeys, dolphins, whales and other complex mammals definitely experience emotion the way that we do.

      As animals become less complicated, perhaps their emotions don’t seem as advanced as ours – but I’ve seen work with rats to be convinced they have emotions as well.

      So in summary – yes! And if you don’t believe me go and work with some or visit a friend with pets – you’ll be left with no doubt!

      Yes it certainly seems that there is evidence to suggest that animals too feel emotions like we do! The National Geographic article below explains in a bit more detail how we know that this is true
